After the gigs with the "Rockets", Pete received a visit from the S.A police, who "explained" that it was illegal for him to work with Black musicians on the same stage.
Result - Pete was deported back to a Britain in the grip of a New Year freeze, with just the summer clothes he stood up in.

Back in the peaceful surroundings of Stratford, Pete settled down to take it easy and re-grow a few brain cells. In 1978 he built a recording studio in the Old Smithy and also started to breed Guide Dogs for the Blind. By sheer chance, his next door neighbour turned out to be the percussionist at the Royal Shakespeare Company. Jamming sessions followed and soon Pete, together with sound engineer Paul Hunt, was producing music and sound effects for their overseas tours and u.k. work, and recording with various Stratford actors including several household names.
