I was working in Lisbon in 2015 and thought I’d make a trip down to the National Fado Museum. I’ve had a Portuguese Guitar for around 30 years and was keen to see more and learn more about the music and its origins.

I wasn’t disappointed. And as an added unexpected bonus whilst I was in the museum I heard music playing outside. As I left there before my eyes was a seven piece band from the former Portuguese colony, the Cape Verde Islands. I chatted with the band in a break and was delighted to be given a CD of traditional Cape Verde music, arranged and played by the band. It is joyful and combines African rhythm with the sequences of Fado.

Another of my “finds” and one worth listening to, time and time again. Watch this space for download updates expected in early 2017.
